# Different goals. A clearer decision.

Position & restorative goals

A thoughtful starting point

Considering new veneers or other restorative work? Understand what a proposed change in tooth position and a proposed change in tooth shape each aim to do before deciding with your clinicians.

A fictional example teaches how to read a proposal. Your clinicians explain your individual assessment and options.

## Understand each part of the decision

[What do you want each approach to change?](/position-shape-and-restorative-goals)

Separate the purpose of proposed movement from the purpose of newly discussed surface or shape work, then read a complete example with both goals in view.

[Two approaches, read on their own terms](/understanding-alternatives-in-a-coordinated-proposal)

Follow two fully explained fictional approaches to Avery's priorities. The useful comparison is what each one is intended to address, with no treatment winner selected here.

[A sequence needs its own explanation](/clinical-sequence-and-separate-service-scope)

See how Avery's fictional choice becomes a particular order of conversations and separate responsibilities. The order belongs to this example and is not a rule for other people.

## Understand the choice behind the treatment name

Two conversations about the same smile can be about different things. You may want to discuss where teeth sit, how they meet, the visible shape of a tooth, or more than one priority. Naming those goals separately makes each clinician's explanation easier to follow.

This SMILE\-FX guide follows one complete fictional example from its first two goals to a neutral comparison and a particular agreed sequence. You can see what each explanation means without using a website to select treatment. The example is educational, not a patient story or a plan for your mouth.

## What is being proposed to change?

Orthodontic treatment concerns tooth movement and alignment. A veneer is a covering on a tooth's front surface. Those descriptions give you a starting distinction; they do not establish that either approach suits you or produces the same change.

The rows below are authored prompts for reading a proposal.

**A useful first distinction**

| Proposed goal | What to listen for |
| --- | --- |
| Position or bite | An explanation of the proposed movement and its purpose. |
| Visible surface or shape | An explanation of the proposed restorative work and its purpose. |
| Both priorities | How the actual explanations relate, including what is decided separately. |

## A doctor\-led place to discuss the orthodontic part

Board\-certified orthodontists see every SMILE\-FX patient, including at follow\-up visits. The Miramar practice offers full\-service orthodontics with a digitally driven clear\-aligner focus.

A planning preview can give you a shared reference for discussing a proposed movement goal. Standard smartphone monitoring gives the clinical team progress information between visits. Your orthodontist remains responsible for interpreting the plan and reviewing care.

Fixed and removable retainers plus whitening are included in SMILE\-FX's treatment offering. Read the complete care model, including individual appliance and continuing\-care arrangements, before discussing your own proposal. The orthodontic inquiry here does not arrange restorative treatment.

## Read the goals, then the relationship

Start with the first lesson if the proposed work sounds interchangeable. Go to the second for the full comparison: both explanations receive equal attention. The third shows how a particular choice can leave a separate restorative decision open while making responsibility clear.

For your own conversation, you can describe a priority in ordinary words: what you would like explained and what matters to you. Your clinicians connect those preferences with their assessment. You do not need to arrive having chosen an appliance or a restorative procedure.
